Plans underway to re-develop legendary Hartford diner

Plans are in the works to redevelop the legendary Comet Diner in Hartford. It’s a longtime go-to destination in the city for food, social gatherings and nightlife.

“I eat out regularly, but I got to other neighborhoods,” said Jackie McKinney, Chairperson of the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association.

Hartford looks to bring legendary diner back to life, rejuvenate character of historic neighborhood

When she was in her 20s, Jackie McKinney, who is now the chairperson of the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association, would go to the old Aetna Diner on Farmington Avenue. The diner — which has gone through several ownership and name changes and is most commonly known as The Comet — has laid fallow and decaying for over 15 years.

Dunkin’ Donuts Park named best Double-A ballpark for fourth time

Ballpark Digest has selected Dunkin’ Donuts Park as the Best Double-A Ballpark in America for the fourth time since it opened in 2017. 

Dunkin’ Donuts Park received the distinction in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. It is the first time that a minor league ballpark has won the award four times, the Yard Goats announced.

Inside Oddities: Bringing the Comet Diner back to Asylum Hill

If you’ve ever traveled down Farmington Avenue in Hartford, you’ve probably seen it. A squat building at the corner of Farmington and Laurel, its aged aluminum structure a time capsule of an era of sock hops and soda parlors. Back then, it was a centerpiece of a bustling neighborhood. Now, residents hope it can bring that neighborhood back.
