Wayne I. Benjamin
Wayne I. Benjamin is the principal of Georgetown Associates– a city economic development, urban and regional planning, and project management consulting firm.
He has over twenty years of Banking/Finance and Economic Development experience. Wayne previously worked as Director of the Economic Development Division for the City of Hartford and oversaw projects such as the Colt factory redevelopment, the Yard Goats baseball stadium, 777 Main Street, and other redevelopment projects throughout the city. His responsibilities included the daily functioning of the Division and part of his duties included working with startups, incubation, and small business formation and funding. Before joining The City in 2000, Wayne led a successful career in banking for over a dozen years. The most recent was an Assistant Treasurer with Mechanics Savings Bank.
Wayne’s training and expertise in the areas of finance and business development are considered a tremendous asset coupled with his problem-solving, project management planning, and leadership skills. In addition, his familiarity with the business landscape and various stakeholders is invaluable. Before he was appointed Director, he served as Senior Project Manager for five years within the city’s Economic Development Division.
Wayne received his MBA in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business from Eastern Connecticut State University, and his formal economic development training through the National Development Council, Economic Development Finance Certification program.
Wayne is a member of various boards of directors including the Hartford Economic Development Corporation (HEDCO), Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association (AHNA), and the city’s Business Improvement District (BID).
